数据化石是一个批判性设计和新媒体概念实验项目,旨在利用设计探索和展现数据从诞生, 处理和演化，到最终衰变的过程。参照地质学现象,本项目提出“数据化石”和“数据沉积”两个概念分别形容虚拟数据在时间和媒体变迁之下的质变和量变。整个计划将被分为五大部分,每部分将以不同的工艺和机械形式具象地表现和比喻数据衰亡中的形态,并以此作为新型的数据实体化和可视化方法。

- 时间和媒体如何影响数据的有效性和存在状态?
- 人们将如何观察和对此现象做出反应?
- 如何透过设计来回应和思考数据的终极形态?

The Data Fossil project enlarges the scale of the temporality of digital data and constructs a future scenario with the fossils as the interface. It also seeks to encourage a wider awareness and empathy towards rotted data by exposing the audience to the possibilities of how data survives under high-tech media(e.g. the cloud) in the future.

How time and media change the existence and validity of data?
What if the rotted data will eventually turn into data fossils?
Can we observe or participate in the process of data rot?
